Saving Private Weinmann picks up where the author's previous book, Reckoning in Normandy ends. It chronicles the relationship between the author and an embittered Normandy veteran, scarred by the brutality of war. The two men develop a symbiotic relationship, in which the author gets a personalized view of the fighting in Europe, and the elderly veteran gains new hope in salvation he never thought possible. The climax comes in an unforgettable description of his liberation of the Dachau concentration camp, how it shattered his faith, and how he was haunted by it for the rest of his life.
Saving Private Weinmann The Last Journey Of A Normandy Veteran Donald Rosen 9781499017144 Books
Author Donald Rosen has created a masterpiece in WWII history, personal and authentic involvement, sensitive and perceptive observation, and another D-Day and Battle of the Bulge documentary drawn from the vivid memories of veterans from these campaigns. He goes on, perhaps, at too much length in presenting long conversations with not only Morris Weinmann, but others who were there in this book, but as his reader, I could not skip a single page of this book nor of his previous book, Reckoning at Normandy. There is history available in both of these books I have not found anywhere else. Once in a while stories are repeated, which might be attributed to editing oversights, but they do not detract from the progress of Rosen's experiences from the 60-year adventure, 2004, of his intense visit to Normandy, Dachau, etc., and from the interviews with veterans from WWII who trust him enough to unload their experiences and opinions, painful, brutally hones, and certainly therapeutic in the telling of their tales. A must read for anyone who realized the life-changing and history-making events of WWII. Go for it, if you're able to handle the realities of war and the resulting psychological, physical, and social aftermath of those who fight for us and those who know them well!Product details

Saving Private Weinmann The Last Journey Of A Normandy Veteran Donald Rosen 9781499017144 Books Reviews
Don Rosen is an excellent writer! "Saving Private Weimann" is a seamless sequel to his well written "Reckoning in Normandy". Both books are born out of the author's extended visits to France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Poland during the 2004 D-day remembrance. His character development is stunning, and his interface with his characters is so strongly autobiographical that you will have no sense that what you are reading is in any way a work of fiction.
Book arrived in good shape. The author's written two books at this point and both are detailed and worth reading.
Read this. Truly one of the most inspiring books I have yet to read. I cannot believe you won't also find it so.
