Angela Leigh Tucker had not expected death that day. Newlywed, thirty years old and a successful public relations professional, she and her husband were driving home when a semi-truck hurtled over the center-lane divider and crushed their SUV. Her husband died on impact. She was left hanging onto life by a thin, golden thread. With her brain severely injured and her neck, shoulder, and ribs broken, she had instantly lost everything but her will to live. In the two years following the crash, with the help of doctors, therapists, friends and family, she fought to recover and to rebuild an entirely new life. This is the inspiring story of her recovery. Today, Angela lives independently in New York City. The injury transformed her life in many surprising and positive ways. Now, she is an advocate for millions of people who have survived and now live with their own brain injury. She has "been there" and her experience informs and inspires us all.

Me Now Who Next? The Inspiring Story of a Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery (Audible Audio Edition) Angela Leigh Tucker Bill Ramsey Scott R Pollak Books

Years after the near-fatal accident that left her with traumatic brain injury, Angela Tucker continued to experience painful and debilitating double vision. A neuro-optomitrist prescribed a special pair of glasses for her that reduced the problem. Bill Ramsey, who co-authored Me Now, tried the glasses and found that they gave him double vision. So he knew what Angela saw and felt himself.
That's one of the strengths of this remarkable book. It tells several stories simultaneously, one being the personal story of Angela Tucker, her accident, injury, and hard-fought tentative recovery. Another story in the book is a thoughtful and thorough account of Traumatic Brain Injury (TMI) in our society, for example, by returning injured soldiers, how treatment is made generally, and how our society helps (or sadly doesn't help) TBI victims. Finally there is yet another story, another lesson, which is how those of us who haven't experienced TBI, but face other adversity, can learn to overcome those challenges. Bill Ramsey writes about that at the end of the book with his five things "from her I have learned." These are sound and sober words of advise, which follow what Philo of Alexandria (circa 20 BCE - 50 ACE) taught: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle."
The book was very well planned from another aspect. The type is large (approximately 12 or 13 points in size, compared to the New York Times at 9 points or the Wall Street Journal at 8 points), the font - in the Helvetica family - is simple and easy to see, and there is generous spacing between the lines. The book is designed to be read by people who might have TBI. In every way, this book is a well thought out, well written, and smartly published.

Accurate and spellbinmding account of recovery. Wonderful and accurate tale of one persons struggle back to wellness. Truly a wonderful strory.
I could not put this book down. Angela's story of determination and recovery is very moving. Everyone should have a copy of this book which will remind you to live everyday to the fullest and to never give up. Angela, your three wishes will come true. Read this book and you will agree!!!
Brave young lady, one determined to make a life for herself, your not going to hold her down. May it give strength to anyone in a similar position.
Angela and her story is a true reminder for us all to stay positive and truly focus and appreciate what is most important in life. Her determination pre and post- accident is unlike no other. Her ability to use her tragedy to help others is remarkable. I teach third graders and am so excited to share this story with my students tomorrow, and teach a lesson on being positive and never giving up!
This is a great book for families with a loved one who has suffered a brain injury. I took a lot of notes to help me with my sister. It is very difficult when in a blink of an eye your life can change. There is very little knowledge of brain injury until you experience it. I have found it tremendously difficult navigating the system.
This is an excellant inspirational story of a young woman in the prime of her life. She was a newlywed with a great career until that awful night!! But, she came through it and how she did it is so inspiring. I am her aunt and really didn't know the whole story until reading this awesome book. If you know of someone who is struggling through a life changing event, please get this book because no matter what it is, you can't help but be uplifted by her inner strength and drive to perservere through it all.
This carefully researched story of Angela Leigh Tucker's amazing recovery from near-death brain injury will inform and inspire anyone who reads it. Author Bill Ramsey tells this story in a dispaasionate, factual manner, following hundreds of hours spent together with Angela Tuckerher medical helpers and personal friends during his research. Once the story is completed, author Ramsey reflects that his encounter wioth this brave young woman has been a life-changing event is his life, but it is noteworthy that he tells the story without emotioonal overtones or personal bias.

I had never realized how traumatic a brain injury could be, especially for a young person whose life is -- once trauma strikes -- unalterablbly changed. That Angela could "move forward," almost immediately upon awakening from her coma, through all the (often painful) steps required of a brain-damaged individual is a tribute to her innate human spirit and her personal character-training during her younger years, as well as to the training and dedication of the many professionals who assisted her. That she has now been able to reach out to others similarly afflicted is a special indication of her generous human spirit. The book also frequently reminds how help from others can be "the difference" in someone's battle to regain some semblance of a human life after destructive trauma like this.

I would recommend "Me Now -- Who Next" to any reader willing to confront a serious subject and reap the personal rewards sure to follow. This is not a "Feel Good" book ......this is a true "Uplift Your Soul" read.
