This is a well done and imaginative novel in an emerging sub genre which rests solidly on right wing discontent with the direction our nation is taking. As a member of the growing disaffected, what is more a faculty member at the most southern University in Texas, I found this vastly entertaining. It harnesses a powerful vision of technocratic subculture with a solid foundation in conservative constitutionalism. I recommend it without reservation and look forward to the next volume in the series. The action is fast paced and the political subtext is clear without being unduly heavy handed. The emergence of this type of literature bodes well for the right but may well presage tempestuous times in our future. The word "secession" is prominent, need I say more?Product details

"Defiance" stole my weekend, I couldn't put it down! I love the spirit of freedom that I feel for our country and this book brought those feelings once again to my heart. It makes you stop and think about the current state of things in our country and what some will selfishly do for power and money and what others will freely do for the good of mankind. Ryker puts it all together for an entertaining and exciting ride.
Can't wait for the next book in the "Fall of The Empire" series!
Overall not bad. A bit unbelievable about the wealth the principle stars have and how they got it, but hey it's fiction right?
The impact of the discovery on the world has yet to be revealed as this first novel leaves you hanging, so it's got me waiting for the next book.
Tom Ryker's "Defiance" is a very enjoyable read. The characters are interesting and you quickly get involved with and concerned for them. The plot is engaging and the details made me stop and think. I highly recommend this book; it's entertaining while making you think about the current state of our union and where we're headed.
This was my first experience with an e-book and it was absolutely amazing!!! I could not put this book down. I similarities between this book and the actual state of our nation are chilling. I really enjoyed Mr Ryker's writing style and the way he immediately pulled me into the story and kept me there. His description of characters made me feel that I knew several of them already and I could relate to many of the personality types that are in the book.
What an amazing read! I can't wait for the second book.
I wasn't sure what to expect before I first started reading Defiance. I friend suggested the book and I had zero background; I didn't even know it was a work of fiction until I opened the Cover.
This is a book I strongly recommend. Mr. Ryker will grab you by the collar and drag you into a world of dangerously incompetent, bloated government agencies whose greatest concern is keeping their position of power no matter the cost. Spun from a web of science-based intrigue wrapped in a setting that felt all-to-real in today's political environment meant I couldn't put the book down.
A must read!
An incredible government and techno-conspiracy thriller! I found myself swept away into an riveting adventure from the moment I picked up the book. The story is riddled with exciting and smart technology intertwined with a very real political, governmental conspiracy to supress said technologies. I found the story hitting amazingly close to home, in today's political & technical climates. The story is intense from start to finish. It is a great read, worth picking up and I eagerly await book #2.
Let me start by saying that I don't take the time to read novels as often as most people I know. Defiance was referred by a good friend at work as something he felt I would enjoy. On his recommendation, I picked it up before a 4 day long weekend away with the family. I usually read (and greatly enjoy) Lee Child's Reacher series, and now I have another Author to enjoy.
Defiance was quite fun to read and drew me in rather quickly. The books rapid pace carried me through the exciting and believable events (which I actually believe could happen anytime in the near future). It made me contemplate the current state of our government and really makes me think... That said, I can say that I cannot wait for the next book to come out so I can see where Tom Ryker takes us next.
